Orthotic Therapy

After your initial Biomechanical Assessment involving a thorough posture, movement and gait assessment, it may be indicated that Custom Foot Orthoses may be of benefit to you. Foot Orthoses do not just work at the level of the foot, but can also produce an affect on your ankles, knees, hips and lower back. They work by reducing loads placed on injured / weakened tissues via redirecting these forces on to other parts of the lower limb in order to allow the healing process to begin.

At Echuca Foot and Ankle clinic we utilise the latest technology within orthotic manufacturing, ensuring they are made to meet your individual needs. The first step in the manufacturing process requires a 3D weight-bearing scan of your foot, where we then utilise a CAD program and design your orthotics within our consulting rooms. A small Melbourne based Orthotic manufacturer will then 3D mill the orthotic. The finishing touches are applied to your orthotics within our own in-house lab here in Echuca.

Modern orthotic technology, customised in our clinic

At Echuca Foot and Ankle Clinic, we use modern orthotic manufacturing methods that allow us to guide the design process and make informed decisions about how we redistribute pressure beneath your feet. Combined with our biomechanical and plantar pressure assessments, this helps us understand how changes to your orthotics may influence comfort, support and function.

Additional training with a prosthetist and orthotist has further developed our approach to orthotic customisation. Rather than relying on the older, rigid orthotic designs traditionally associated with foot orthoses, we can explore different materials, cushioning and modifications to achieve a balance of support, comfort and durability. We can also refurbish and re-cover suitable existing orthotics to extend their usable life, helping you get more value from your original investment where possible.

A personalised approach from manufacture to final fit

We work with two specialist podiatry manufacturing facilities: our Melbourne clinic produces milled EVA orthotics, while our Wagga Wagga facility produces 3D-printed orthotics. Once manufactured, the devices return to our clinic laboratory, where we complete the final customisations and top covering to suit your individual needs.

This hands-on approach is a real strength of our clinic. By guiding the process from prescription through to final fitting and adjustment, we can fine-tune the device to your footwear, activity demands and comfort requirements. Our aim is to bring modern orthotic technology and individualised care to Echuca, with an approach that keeps pace with contemporary metropolitan podiatry services.

Did you know? Orthotics don't always need to change how your foot moves.

For people living with chronic or complex arthritis, particularly older adults with painful or sensitive feet, a traditional functional orthotic may not always be the best option. Instead, an accommodative orthotic can be designed to cushion sensitive areas, redistribute pressure and provide comfort without trying to substantially change foot mechanics.

This can be particularly useful when the priority is making standing and walking more comfortable, rather than correcting movement or controlling foot posture. The design is tailored to the individual's symptoms, foot shape, footwear and daily needs.

Our philosophy is simple: your orthotics should work for you. Whether you need functional support, targeted pressure relief or a more accommodating device for arthritic feet, we aim to find a solution that balances comfort, function and long-term value.

This customisation is designed to help reduce pressure and impact through the heel, providing additional cushioning and support for those experiencing heel pain, including children with Sever’s disease.
